Data Protection & Patient Confidentiality

We respect your right to privacy and keep all your health information confidential and secure. All Practice staff are required to sign a confidentiality agreement and are trained to respect your privacy. We are registered as a Data Controller under the Data Protection Act 1998 with the Information Commissioners Office.

Our receptionists have a vital role in linking you with the GPs and other healthcare professionals at the Practice. They may need to ask you questions to help us to assess your needs, when they do so they are not being intrusive and do so at the GPs request. The information you give will be treated in confidence and enable us to direct you to the appropriate clinician or service.

The GPs and healthcare professionals caring for you keep records about your health and any treatment or care you receive from the NHS. These records are used to guide and manage the care you receive. You may also be receiving care from organisations outside the NHS, if so we may need to share some information about you to enable everyone involved in your care to work together for your benefit. Whenever this is necessary your information will be handled in the strictest confidence and will be subject to the principles of confidentiality.
